Questions

Couple & Family Photoshoot: questions before you book

Do I need to book in advance?

Two to three days is ideal so we can match you with an artist and photographer and reserve the ao dai in your size. Same-day is sometimes possible — message us on WhatsApp and we will tell you honestly.

Where do we meet?

Your artist comes to your hotel or Airbnb for makeup and hair. The photographer then meets you at the first location, which we plan around where you are staying.

What should I wear under the ao dai?

A light, neutral top and fitted bottoms (leggings or slim trousers) work best. We bring the ao dai and the traditional trousers; you keep your own shoes, so choose something comfortable for walking.

How many photos do we get and how fast?

All the good frames from the session, edited, within 48 hours via an online gallery. Rush delivery the same evening is available.

What if it rains?

Hanoi and Saigon have real rainy seasons. We watch the forecast, move the start time or shift indoors (cafés, temples, hotel), and if the day is a wash-out we reschedule at no cost.

Couple & Family Photoshoot in Vietnam — the complete guide

What a Couple Photoshoot in Vietnam Looks Like

A couple photoshoot with Cáo Studio is not a formal sit-down session in a studio. It's a relaxed 90-minute walk through the city you're visiting—Hanoi's old quarter at sunrise, a Saigon café alley at golden hour, or Hoi An's lantern-lit streets after dusk. You arrive with your partner (or family), we handle the rest: hair, makeup if you want it, an ao dai in your size, and a photographer who knows exactly where the light hits and which corners of the city make people look alive.

This works for honeymoons, anniversaries, multi-generation trips, and families with kids. Your grandparents are welcome; we keep the pace gentle. The goal is photos that feel like you, not posed stiffness. You're walking, talking, laughing—the camera catches it. Within 48 hours, all edited images land in your inbox.

Most couples book this because they want to wear the ao dai (the traditional Vietnamese tunic dress—it's elegant, photographs beautifully, and it's something they'll treasure). Families choose it because it includes everyone: children get their own ao dai, and there's no pressure to sit still. If you'd rather wear your own clothes, that works too. The studio plans a route near your hotel so you're not spending your morning on transport.

What's Included in Your Session

On the day, here's what happens: You message us on WhatsApp with your city, dates, group size, and what you're imagining. We reply in English within the hour (6am–9pm Vietnam time) with a quote tailored to you. Once you confirm with a small deposit, we plan everything: your photographer, the ao dai sizes we'll need, makeup artist if you want one, and a walking route near your hotel. No stress on your end.

When the shoot day arrives, the artist and photographer meet you at your hotel. If you've chosen makeup and hair, that happens in your room—typically 30 minutes. Then you step out with your ao dai and the photographer for the shoot itself. You're walking, not standing in one place; you're encouraged to hold hands, walk toward the light, sit on a bench, interact with each other. The photographer frames the moment. Kids can play, grandparents can rest on a bench while the younger couples are photographed nearby. The whole experience is 1.5 to 2.5 hours from start to finish.

Every photo you see in your inbox has been edited: color corrected, retouched where it matters, and ready to print or share.

How Booking Works: WhatsApp, Confirmation, and the Day

Start by messaging Cáo Studio on WhatsApp or Zalo at +84 338 762 340. Tell us: your city (Hanoi, Saigon, or Hoi An), your dates, how many people, and what you're envisioning. Maybe you want sunrise by Hoan Kiem Lake. Maybe you want a family portrait in a café. Maybe you're not sure—just say that. We reply in English within the hour, every day from 6am to 9pm Vietnam time.

In that first message, we outline your session: the photographer assigned, ao dai sizes we'll need, whether makeup and hair is included, and the proposed meeting point near your hotel. We send a simple confirmation with the time and place. There's no long email chain or complicated form. The studio is set up to work fast because you're traveling on a schedule.

A small deposit secures your booking. The photographer arrives at your hotel at the agreed time, makeup happens if you've chosen it, and then you shoot. Within 48 hours, your edited photos are in your inbox. If you have questions before or after, you reach the same number on WhatsApp.

The studio has two working locations: Hanoi at 11 Lien Tri, Hoan Kiem, and Saigon in Go Vap. These are active makeup studios, not just booking offices—they serve local brides and events, so the team knows makeup and light intimately. In Hoi An, the studio team travels to you by appointment (there's no permanent studio there, but the same service applies).

Where We Shoot: Three Cities, Specific Locations

You might shoot at the Temple of Literature in golden early light, or along Hoan Kiem Lake and Huc Bridge at sunrise when the lake is mirror-still. The Old Quarter has narrow alleys and café courtyards that frame two people beautifully; Dong Xuan Market has character and chaos. Tran Quoc Pagoda on West Lake is serene and ancient-feeling. Phan Dinh Phung street has colonial architecture and quiet morning light. The photographer knows which of these spots suits your vibe and books them based on the season and time of day.

Saigon moves faster than Hanoi, and so do the shoots. Notre-Dame Cathedral and the Central Post Office are iconic backdrops, especially in soft morning light before the city wakes. Nguyen Hue Walking Street is lively and modern. The alleyways in District 1 have colonial charm and street cafés where couples look relaxed and natural. Thu Thiem riverside offers cleaner sightlines and water reflections. Landmark 81 view gives you the skyline. Because Saigon is hot and humid, the studio typically schedules shoots earlier in the morning or at golden hour to keep you comfortable.

Hoi An is quieter and entirely different. The Ancient Town's yellow walls and lanterns are unmistakable. The Japanese Covered Bridge is intimate and photogenic. Early morning on the Thu Bon River with lantern boats creates a dreamlike backdrop. Lantern streets after dusk are magical—colored lights, soft focus, romance built in. Tra Que vegetable village outside town is rural and genuine, perfect if you want less tourist flow. The studio team travels to Hoi An by appointment, so plan ahead if that's your base.

What to Wear: Ao Dai, Colors, and How to Prepare

If you're doing an ao dai shoot—and most couples do—you don't need to bring anything. The studio provides ao dai in every size, for adults and children. If you're unsure what size you are, just ask on WhatsApp; the artist will guide you. The ao dai comes in classic colors: jewel tones (emerald, sapphire, ruby), whites, pastels, and bold patterns. If you're a couple, you might both wear the same color for unity, or you might choose complementary shades. Grandparents and children wear ao dai too, which creates visual harmony in family photos.

If you prefer your own clothes, bring them. The photographer will work with what you've packed. Just avoid very bright neons, heavy logos, or busy all-over patterns—they distract from your faces. Solid colors, pastels, and natural fabrics (cotton, linen) photograph better than synthetics. If you're wearing your own outfit, mention it when you book so the photographer can plan the location and light around your palette.

Wear something comfortable underneath the ao dai—a slip or light undergarment. The ao dai is worn over casual clothes, and you'll be walking, so comfort matters. For makeup, come with clean skin if you've booked that service; the artist will do everything. If you haven't booked makeup, come as you are—the photographer adjusts for natural light and your natural features.

Bring any jewelry you love. Earrings, bracelets, and rings show up in close-ups and add personality. Leave your phone and bag at the hotel or give them to a friend during the shoot—they break the immersion. The photographer has one job: capture you two, not your luggage.

Best Light, Best Season, and What Happens If It Rains

The best light for photography happens in the first hour after sunrise and the last two hours before sunset—what photographers call the golden hour. The light is warm, soft, and forgiving; it doesn't create harsh shadows on faces. In Vietnam, this means early morning shoots (around 6–7am in most seasons) or late afternoon shoots (around 4–5pm). The studio schedules based on your preference and the season. In Hanoi, winter (November–February) has the clearest, most stable light. In Saigon and Hoi An, where it's warm year-round, any season works, but the dry season (November–April) is more predictable.

Rain is part of traveling in Southeast Asia. The studio has a rain plan: if heavy rain hits on your shoot day and makes walking impossible, you can reschedule to the next available date at no extra cost. Light rain or drizzle? That's often photographable—wet streets reflect light, and rain gives texture to shots. The photographer will let you know on the day whether conditions are safe and lovely, or whether rescheduling makes sense. This decision happens between you and the photographer together; it's not a rigid policy but a practical conversation.

Humidity in Saigon and Hoi An can be intense, especially April through October. If you're shooting in hot season, the studio schedules earlier starts (before 7am) and keeps the session shorter to keep you fresh. Early morning also means fewer tourists and softer, more flattering light. In Hanoi, winter can be cool and occasionally misty—beautiful for photos, though you might want a light layer over your ao dai. Check the forecast before your trip, but also trust that the photographer has shot in all seasons and knows how to work with what the weather brings.

Combining This Service with Other Shoots and Experiences

If you're spending a week in Vietnam and want more than one type of shoot, the studio builds packages easily. Many couples do a couple photoshoot in Hanoi for the history and light, then an ao dai for two session in Hoi An for intimacy and lanterns. Families might book a couple & family photoshoot in Saigon with kids, then an anniversary shoot in a quieter location if the parents want a solo session. The studio coordinates timing and uses the same photographer if possible, so there's continuity in style across your images.

If you're in Vietnam for a special event, you can layer services. Book the photoshoot, then add makeup and hair at your hotel for your partner, or for everyone if it's a family session. The makeup artist is the same person you'd meet for the shoot, so there's no awkward handoff. If you're thinking about a proposal or anniversary photoshoot, the studio can weave that into a multi-day itinerary. Or if you want something entirely custom—say, a special concept shoot based on a dream you have—the studio designs it with you.

If you're returning for a larger event (a pre-wedding photoshoot, for instance, or an elopement), the couple photoshoot is often a warm-up: you meet the photographer, understand how they work, and get comfortable in front of the camera before the bigger day. These give you a real sense of what the photographer delivers and what's possible in your chosen city.

Getting a Quote and Booking on WhatsApp

Everything starts with a message to +84 338 762 340 on WhatsApp or Zalo. You don't need to know exact package names or prices—just tell us what you're thinking. "We're in Hanoi for three days, want to shoot on the morning of our anniversary." Or, "Family of five, including my parents, visiting Saigon next month." Or, "Never done a photoshoot before, but we love the ao dai look." The studio replies within the hour with a personalized quote based on your city, group size, length of session, and whether you want makeup included.

The quote is sent on WhatsApp and takes seconds to understand. There are no hidden costs or surprise fees. You'll know exactly what the session includes, where you'll meet, and what happens next. If you want to move forward, you confirm with a small deposit; the balance is due on the day of the shoot. The studio accepts cash or bank transfer, whichever is simpler for you as a traveler.

If you have questions about what's possible—can we shoot at this specific location, can we include my friend, can we do two locations in one session—ask on WhatsApp. The team is used to customizing. The studio moves fast because it understands that you're traveling on a clock. From your first message to the confirmed booking usually takes a few hours. If you're booking far in advance (more than a month out), that's even easier; if you're booking last-minute (a few days before), the studio will do its best to fit you in, depending on photographer availability in your city.

When you're ready, message WhatsApp.
